Cut It Out

Cut It Out is a national campaign that we are bringing to Rochester to engage Hair Salons & Barber Shops in the effort to end violence against women, sexual assault and domestic violence. Approximately every six weeks there is a domestic violence related murder in our community.

Highlights of the Day

  • 10,000 Men By 2010 Pledge Campaign Kick-Off netted over 400 signed pledges. This is 4% of our goal!!
  • 16 Salons and Barbers participated
  • Over 30 people volunteered
  • Over 200 people attended
  • Over $4000 raised
  • Received over $5000 in In-kind donations
  • Over $950 of hair care items collected for Alternatives for Battered Women
  • Local VIPs attended: Joe Robach, New York State Senator; Jean Howard, Rochester Mayor's Chief of Staff; Commander Todd Baxter, Rochester Police Department; and Dr. Bill Destler, RIT President
  • Media Coverage: Channel 8, Fox News, Channel 10, and Channel 13
  • A volunteer was asked out by a doctor. (Volunteering has unexpected benefits!!)
