Awareness Event and Silent Auction at the Public Market
Sunday, July 26th 8:00am-1:00pm and Saturday August 8nd 9:00am-2:00pm
Violence against women is a major problem in our society. Approximately every
six weeks there is a domestic violence or intimate partner related murder in our
community. In 2007 fifty five percent (55%) of the female homicide victims in New
York State were murdered by their intimate partner, spouse, ex-husband or
ex-boyfriend. The Buffalo News reported last month that there have been 13 female
intimate partner homicides in the past seven months. Stand Up Guys is a local not
for profit organization that is dedicated to ending violence against women by
engaging well intentioned men and women as allies. We believe that ending violence
against women is not a “women’s issue’ but an issue for anyone who
cares about fairness, justice and safety for the women and children in their family
and community. Our Vision is a world with Liberty, Justice, Safety and Equality
for All.
Stand Up Guys is launching many awareness and fundraising campaigns to secure
the necessary funds to develop and implement our prevention programs to help
eradicate the insidious epidemic of domestic violence, interpersonal violence,
sexual assault and teen dating violence. We will be at the Rochester Public Market
on two consecutive Sundays from 8am until 1pm on July 26th and August 2nd;
displaying brochures and video clips about our prevention and education programs,
10,000 Men By 2010 Campaign, as well as, holding an art and crafts sale and silent
auction.

Cut It Out Event
April 26, 2008
Stand Up Guys, Rape Crisis and over 50 volunteers teamed up with local hair salons
and barber shops during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Our gracious host was Daniel
Ward Salon on University Avenue. Major Sponsors included PAETEC, McCarthy Tents and
Events, Verizon Wireless, Monroe County Sheriff, Alouette Tool, Spin Marketing.
We were honored to have in attendance: Jean Howard, on behalf of Mayor Robert Duffy, who
signed the Stand Up Guy Pledge prior to the event; Dr. William Destler, President of
RIT, who signed the Pledge and made a pledge by purchasing an “Ann-Made” fabric bag
for his wife, Rebecca. We also owe major gratitude to Stand Up Guy Rick Walther, who
attended the event with his family and presented Stand Up Guys with a check from PAETEC for $500.
